PASADENA, Calif. (AP) _ Cobi Jones and Carlos Ruiz each scored twice and the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the Kansas City Wizards 5-2 on Wednesday night to reach the MLS semifinals.

In winning Game 3 of the first round, the Galaxy won the series, six points to three. Five points were needed to advance.

In the semifinals, the Galaxy will face the Colorado Rapids, beginning Saturday at the Rose Bowl.

Chris Klein and Preki scored in the second half for the Wizards. McKinley Tennyson scored during injury time in the second half for Los Angeles before a Rose Bowl crowd announced at 14,713.

The Galaxy opened the scoring in the 34th minute. Ruiz rolled a right-footed shot under a diving Kansas City goalkeeper Tony Meola off Sasha Victorine's free kick.

Los Angeles increased its lead to 2-0 on Jones' unassisted goal during injury time in the first half.

The Wizards cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 47th minute on Klein's goal off assists from Eric Quill and Chris Brown.

The Galaxy put the game away by scoring twice in a five-minute span. Jones scored in the 62nd minute, converting a rebound of Ruiz's shot that rebounded off the left goal post. Wizards defender Nick Garcia was unable to take possession.

Ruiz scored in the 66th minute, faking Garcia and then putting a shot diagonally past Meola, inside the left post.

Preki scored on a 72nd-minute free kick for the Wizards, deflecting his shot off a Galaxy player positioned in the wall.
