Bridgestone Names American Chief
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Bridgestone USA Inc. has chosen James P. McMann as the first American president of the Tokyo-based company, officials said.
McMann, a 35-year veteran of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. who has been executive vice president of Bridgestone USA Inc. since December 1986, will step into the position Aug. 1, officials said Thursday.
He succeeds Norihiro Takeuchi, who will now serve as senior vice president for business planning.
McCann served as managing director in Malaysia for five years and as president of Goodyear Japan for three years. He retired from the company in 1985 as vice president of Asia Pacific Goodyear International Corp.
Bridgestone, which plans to move its headquarters from Torrance, Calif., to Nashville by Aug. 1, recently merged with Firestone and now manages and operates Firestone’s worldwide holdings.
Bridgestone is the No. 1 tiremaker in Japan and the third largest worldwide. It produces most types of tires and industrial rubber and chemical products in five countries.
