GOP Biggie: Thomas Kean’s Book
NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ New Jersey Gov. Thomas Kean is a bigger hit than Vice President George Bush at the bookstore nearest the Superdome, where the Republican National Convention is going on.
″That’s the biggie this week,″ Stephanie Renfro, a saleswoman at the B. Dalton Bookstore across an elevated walkway from the Superdome, said as she pointed to ″The Politics of Inclusion.″
″What isn’t selling is anything about him,″ she said, pointing to Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis’ portrait on the cover of ″The Man Who Would Be President.″
″And also not selling is anything of this negative Reagan stuff,″ Renfro said, pointing out books by President Reagan’s former press secretary, Larry Speakes; the president’s son, Michael, and his former chief of staff, Donald Regan.
And ″Looking Forward,″ the autobiography of Vice President George Bush, the man who will become the Republican nominee later this week?
″It’s selling. It’s not on fire. But it’s steady,″ Renfro said.
