Hayton traded; ready to Teddy toss
The Komets have traded goaltender Kyle Hayton, a rookie, to the Allen Americans to complete the trade for J.C. Campagna that was made Oct. 15 for future considerations. The Komets needed to clear a roster spot when they acquired Jordan Sims today from Greenville to complete the trade for Thomas Ebbing for future considerations.
Hayton had stopped 27 of 30 shots and lost his only start at Rapid City, South Dakota, for the Komets, who are now carrying goalies Zach Fucale and Lukas Hafner heading into Wednesday’s game at Cincinnati.
Disappointing, since I’m a big proponent of carrying three goalies, especially when one (Fucale) is sure to be called back up to the American Hockey League, but I do get it in this case because the Komets really didn’t have anyone else to move out.I neglected to post this link to our books page which will be of interest to you on the update of the biography of late Komets broadcaster Bob Chase, so check it out: www.journalgazette.net/opinion/books/20181125/the-case-for-chase. The Komets play host to the Toledo Walleye at Memorial Coliseum at 8 p.m. Friday. That will be the annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit the Disorderly Bear Den, an awesome non-profit that donates stuffed animals to those in need. So bring new or gently used stuffed animals to be tossed on to the ice after the first Komets goal and hope that they do score one. Can you imagine the pressure to not be shut out in that game? And, yes, I did see that happen once. I don’t remember where it was, but it was very uncomfortable for the home team.
