WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) _ Tyree Jackson scored 16 points, including a 16-foot jumper with :26 left that broke a 71-71 tie to life Jacksonville to a 76-73 win over Monmouth on Saturday.

The Hawks looked to be in control early as they jumped out to a 22-9 lead behind junior transfer Jason Yoder, who was playing in his first game. Yoder netted his 11 points in the first half as the Monmouth built a 38-34 halftime lead.

Junior Aaron Fox kept Jacksonville in the game with 12 points off the bench in the first and finished with a team-high 18.

Jacksonville opened up a 66-58 margin with 6:38 to play, but the Hawks came back behind sophomore Mike Perno, who had 15 points.

Monmouth tied the score at 69-69 and at 71-71 and had a chance to take the lead in the final minute. But the Hawks were whistled for an offensive foul on a breakaway layup with :52 to play.
