Firefighter Ministry assisting two families displaced in Sidney fire

SCOTTSBLUFF — The Firefighter Ministry is helping two families who were impacted by a fire in Sidney Tuesday.

Carissa Smith of Firefighter Ministry said the two families lived in a duplex, which reports list as being located at 2460 Ft. Sidney Road. Sidney firefighters battled the blaze, responding at about 2:30 a.m., the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Smith said both families are being assisted. A family of three lived in the apartment that the fire occurred in and Smith said they have been assisted with food, clothing and a care package for immediate needs. They are currently staying with family.

A family living in a neighboring apartment were also displaced after fire breached the apartment, which also sustained smoke damage. The Firefighter Ministry assisted with food, clothing and deposit assistance for a new rental.

Within the last month, Firefighter Ministry has assisted with 11 fires. The organization is able to provide aid through donations from the community. Smith said donations can be made at any Platte Valley Bank location or at First Baptist Church, which oversees the ministry.
