NEWARK, Del. (AP) _ Joe Linderman scored 23 points to lead Drexel past Towson State 78-75 Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the America East Conference tournament.

Jeff Myers scored 22 and Chuck Guittar 20 for the Dragons, who held on despite making only one field goal in the final seven minutes. Myers did not hit from the field in the second half. Mike DeRocckis was the only other player to score for Drexel.

Drexel (21-7), which led throughout the second half, went ahead 60-51 after DeRocckis hit two free throws with 10:01 left. A three-point play by Linderman with 3:03 to go, the Dragons’ only field goal in the final seven minutes, made it 76-68.

Towson rallied on two baskets by Derick Newton, who led the Tigers with 20, and a 3-pointer by Damon Cason with 51 seconds left, cutting the lead to one.

Guittar made a free throw with 24 seconds left, leaving Towson with a chance to tie or take the lead, but a 3-point try by Florian Schneider at the five second mark missed. Myers made a free throw for Drexel, and a desperation shot by Marlin Wise fell short at the buzzer.
