President’s Doctor Says Report Caldera has Cancer is False
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) _ President Rafael Caldera is in good health and does not have cancer as a prominent critic alleged last week, his doctor said.
``The health of President Caldera is absolutely normal... I can guarantee it’s completely normal,″ Dr. Fernando Ruben Coronil told The Associated Press on Friday.
Last week, Hugo Chavez, the former army officer who led a failed coup in February 1992, alleged the 79-year-old Caldera has prostate cancer.
Even though Chavez offered no evidence, his comments Wednesday were widely reported in Venezuela’s media.
But Coronil said Caldera’s only apparent health problems were that he has arthritis and is overweight.
