Firefighters find Kiski house burned to foundation

October 6, 2018

A one-story wood-framed house burned down to its foundation early Thursday morning in Kiski Township, officials said.

A passerby reported the fire at 112 Hicksville Road at 5 a.m., according to an Armstrong County 911 dispatcher. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from Avonmore, just across the Kiski River, were first on the scene, and reported the building was destroyed.

“It was already burnt to the ground when we got there,” said Rich Frain, chief of Kiski Township Fire Department #1. “We have no idea when it started, how it started. There’s nothing there to even investigate.

“Honestly, it was burning for a long time before it was even spotted.”

No one was home at the time of the fire, Frain said. He couldn’t say who owned the house.

Frain said the state police fire marshal with the Butler barracks has been called to investigate.
