Gov. Greg Abbott to highlight property taxes, education in State of the State Address

AUSTIN - Gov. Greg Abbott will take center stage at the Texas Capitol tomorrow as he delivers his State of the State Address. Here’s what to expect:

APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE: The House Appropriations Committee will meet at 7:30 a.m. to hear public testimony about health care in Texas prisons, border security, the state driver’s license program, Abbott’s school safety plan and the state child support enforcement system. ALL EYES ON ABBOTT: At 11:00 a.m. in the House Chamber, Abbott will deliver his State of the State Address, in which he is expect to call on legislators to get to work on reforming school finance in Texas, and adding resources, and to highlight efforts to slow the escalation of state property taxes. EDUCATION COMMITTEE: After Abbott’s speech, the House Public Education Committee will convene to hear testimony on the public school finance system. View the agenda here and watch the stream here.
