Lady O falls at home to No. 3 Seward

The Beatrice girls basketball team tried to rally from behind against Class B No. 3 Seward, but the Lady Blue Jays proved to be too much in the fourth quarter.

The Lady O fell to Seward 48-36 Friday night at the Ozone in Beatrice.

Carley Leners scored the first two points of the game, but Seward came back with seven straight points to take a 7-2 lead.

Mak Hatcliff ended the run with a three pointer. Addie Barnard then answered a Seward three pointer with a steal and layup to make it 10-7 after one quarter.

Seward scored the first seven points of the second quarter and they outscored Beatrice 16-6 in the quarter to lead 26-13 at half time. Hannah Lytle hit two three pointers in the second quarter, which accounted for all the Lady O scoring.

Seward scored the first two points of the third quarter, but Beatrice answered with a 9-0 run.

Leners got the run started with back-to-back baskets and Lytle followed that up with a three pointer. Hatcliff capped the run with a steal and layup to make it 28-22.

Seward ended the run with a basket, but Leners came back with two free throws to make it 30-24.

The Lady Blue Jays finished the third quarter on a 6-0 run to make it 36-24 entering the fourth quarter.

Seward scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, but Leners answered with a a three pointer and another basket to make it 40-29.

Barnard answered a Seward basket with a basket of her own to make it 42-31.

After four straight points by Seward, Barnard connected with three free throws and Leners scored to make it 46-36. Seward finished the game with two free throws to make the final score 48-36.

Leners led the way for Beatrice with 15 points while Lytle had nine, Barnard had seven and Hatcliff had five.

The Lady O falls to 5-5 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday when they host Waverly.
