Ala.-Birmingham 39, SW Louisiana 29

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Keith Roland completed a 99-yard drive by catching a 13-yard touchdown pass from Rodney Hudson, giving Alabama-Birmingham the lead for good in a 39-29 victory over Southwestern Louisiana on Saturday.

The Blazers (4-2) began the deciding drive with 7:22 to play after a punt was downed at the 1. After an incomplete pass on first down and a 2-yard run by Roland, Robert Davis converted a short pass from Hudson into a 67-yard gain to the Southwestern 30.

Five plays later, Roland’s TD made it 34-29, and Hudson’s 2-point pass to Kenny Causey increased the lead to seven.

The Blazers added a 24-yard field goal by Jake Arians with 46 seconds left.

Roland’s four touchdowns tied a UAB record set by Derrick Ingram against Prairie View in 1994. Roland scored twice in the first quarter on a 3-yard run and a 3-yard pass from Hudson. In the second quarter, with the Blazers leading 14-10, Roland scored on a 9-yard run.

Carl Sanders, who led the game with 175 yards on 17 carries, also scored before the half on a 58-yard run.

The Cajuns (3-4) took a 29-28 lead in the third quarter after Jake Delhomme threw TD passes of 24 yards to Garrick Mayweather and 22 yards to Byron Gasaway.

Delhomme also had a four-touchdown day, the first of his career, as he passed for 282 yards. He went over 8,000 yards in his career.

Hudson completed 12-of-19 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns.

Kenyon Cotton, who had 137 yards on 23 rushes, reacvhed 2,001 yards for his career, a UAB record.
