CHICAGO (AP) _ Infielder Dave Owen was recalled Tuesday by the Chicago Cubs from their Class AAA Iowa farm team, the National League team said.

Owen will fill the roster spot opened when Bill Hatcher was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with torn wrist ligaments.

Owen, 27, was batting .227 after 100 games at Iowa, with 11 home runs and 40 RBI. He has been playing mostly at second base.

Last year, Owen appeared in 47 major league games as the Cubs won the National League East title, batting .194.
