Southern Illinois’ Herrin seeking city motto
HERRIN, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois city wants a moniker and officials are asking locals for help sorting out which one of four options best represents the community.
The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan (http://bit.ly/1dh0sPt ) reports that a search is underway in the 12,500-resident Williamson County city of Herrin. The motto will be used in marketing and economic development efforts.
The four prospects include the name of the city, followed by the slogans, “Eat. Shop. Play,” ″Welcome Home,” ″Where History Meets the Future,” or “The Heart and Soul of Southern Illinois.”
Residents may vote online or in various ballot boxes throughout Herrin through Friday. The winning motto will be announced Dec. 21.
