FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) _ Two quick baskets from Rashan Jones with a minute remaining pushed Baylor (2-1) past Montana for a fifth-place win Sunday in the Top of the World Classic.
Jones’ tip-in broke a 68-68 tie, and 30 seconds later he made a layup after a loose-ball scramble to put the game out of reach.
Eleven lead changes in the second half keep the contest exciting until Jones made his buckets.
Montana (1-2) came out of halftime behind but scored seven unanswered points on a Chris Spoja 3-pointer and buckets by Brent Smith and Kirk Walker.
The game stayed close from there.
Baylor’s Brian Skinner led all scorers with 24 points. He also posted a game-high 14 rebounds.
Walker was Montana’s higher scorer, with 18. Smith had 11 rebounds.
Skinner put up 14 points in the first half and pulled in 11 rebounds in the first 20 minutes, dominating Montana’s bigger front court.
Grizzly center Don Carter had five rebounds in the half, all of them defensive. Chris Spoja scored nine points in the half, tops for Montana.
Baylor took the lead in the game’s first five minutes and went into the locker room with a 37-32 halftime lead.
