Report: Boston area housing affordability worsening
BOSTON (AP) — A new report says it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find affordable housing in greater Boston, especially for young adults and aging baby boomers.
The 12th annual housing report card released Wednesday by the Boston Foundation says while the Boston area’s economy is thriving, housing is falling short of meeting needs.
The report, prepared by the Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy at Northeastern University, describes a housing market increasingly out of synch with demands.
According to The Boston Globe (http://bit.ly/1x0S8lA ), the report says young workers drawn to Boston for its graduate programs and jobs are spending a greater share of their incomes to afford rents that keep climbing. In the suburbs, baby boomers who want to move to smaller homes requiring less maintenance are having a hard time finding alternatives.
