Former Missouri pharmacist pleads guilty to drug theft

May 1, 2019

FENTON, Mo. (AP) — A former St. Louis area pharmacist has pleaded guilty to stealing drugs from a pharmacy.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 59-year-old Tina Obermeier, of Webster Groves, pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to one count of obtaining controlled substances by fraud.

Prosecutors say she stole drugs including hydrocodone and methadone while working as a pharmacist at the SSM St. Clare Hospital near Fenton from January 2017 to April 2018. Obermeier hid the drugs under her lab coat or other clothing instead of placing them in bins for delivery to patients. Prosecutors say she also caused prescriptions to be filled a second time and filled prescriptions for patients who didn’t have drugs prescribed.

She is scheduled to be sentenced in July.
