US govt pledges $600K for new parks in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico is scheduled to receive more than $600,000 in federal funds to establish new parks and other recreation areas across the U.S. territory.

The island’s Federal Affairs Administration said Tuesday that the U.S. Department of the Interior pledged the money as part of a push to preserve the environment.

Officials said it’s up to the local government to decide on which projects to invest the money.
