DURHAM, N.C. (AP) _ Alana Beard scored 19 of her season-high 29 points in the second half Sunday and No. 1 Duke beat St. Joseph's 82-48 in the championship game of the Duke Women's Basketball Classic.

Beard, who was 13-of-17 from the field, had nine rebounds and three steals and was selected most valuable player.

Mistie Bass added 16 points and Sheana Mosch had 10 for Duke (7-0).

Stephanie Graff and Amra Mehmedic each scored 11 points for St. Joseph's (2-3).

The Blue Devils outrebounded St. Joseph's 39-20 and forced 23 turnovers that led to a 29-11 edge in points off turnovers.

Duke shot 56 percent for the game, including 17-for-25 in the second half. The Blue Devils held St. Joseph's to 39 percent shooting.

The Blue Devils led 36-22 at halftime and used a 22-4 spurt midway through the second half to put the game away. Beard scored consecutive baskets to spark the run, which gave the Blue Devils a 61-32 lead with 9:30 to play.

Beard later scored eight straight points in 1:53 span, helping Duke to its biggest lead in the final minute.

Beard scored three baskets off steals in the first half, including one that keyed a 9-0 run that gave Duke a 23-9 lead.

Duke has beaten its first seven opponents by an average of 34.9 points.
