State cops break up heroin operations

BRIDGEPORT - State police said they broke up two heroin operations in the city.

Members of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force recently raided a home on Westfield Avenue. Police said detectives found 46 bags of heroin stamped with brand name “Gold.” However, they said the target of the raid, Charles Mitchell, 62, evaded capture.

On Wednesday, task force members hit the Westfield Avenue apartment again. This time police said they arrested Mitchell, charging him with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Also on Wednesday, task force members raided a home on Nichols Street. During the search of the apartment police said detectives found quantities of heroin, crack cocaine and over $1,000 in cash.

Michael Edmonds, 53, and his brother, Jack Edmonds, 62, were charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school.

Both Edmonds brothers managed to later post bond.
