Olivet Nazarene 82, Wayland Baptist 65
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Bob Cook scored 17 points Wednesday night, leading four Olivet Nazarene players in double figures as the Tigers from Illinois easily upset eighth- seeded Wayland Baptist of Texas 82-65 in the first round of the NAIA Division I basketball tournament.
Olivet Nazarene (25-10) was in command throughout, leading 38-23 at the half and twice pushing its margin to 24 points. Wayland Baptist (28-6) couldn’t get any closer than 15 points in the second half, the last time when Corey Cornish hit a free throw to make it 59-44 with 8:52 left.
David Grasse had 15 points for Olivet Nazarene, with Jeff Residori adding 12 and Gary Tidwell 11. Cornish led all scorers with 22 points, and Donald Myrie with 18 was the only other Wayland Baptist player in double figures.
