EARNS-DOLLAR GENERAL

NEW YORK — Dollar General Corp. reported a boost in third-quarter profit that met Wall Street expectations, but it expects lingering costs from hurricane season to cut into finances for the remainder of the year.

ST JUDE-DONATION, from MEMPHIS, Tenn. — St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital says a $50 million donation from a research-based pharmaceutical company is the largest one-time gift in its history.

TROUT RESTORATION, from CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Appalachian Chapter of Trout Unlimited has donated $11,000 toward the restoration of the southern Appalachian brook trout.

EXECUTION-TENNESSEE, from NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A condemned Tennessee inmate is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to halt his Thursday execution and consider his claims that the electric chair is unconstitutional but the state’s lethal injection method is worse.
