Man sentenced in crash that drowned 3 men
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A Mexican national has received a 3-year prison sentence for his part in an immigrant-smuggling run that ended in a South Texas stock pond, drowning three men.
A federal judge in San Antonio sentenced Jose Abram Lopez-Lozano on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Monterrey, Mexico, man had pleaded guilty in March to an immigrant-smuggling count.
Javier Silva-Morales of the Mexican state of Michoacan was sentenced last month to 12 years in federal prison. The 31-year-old driver of the sport utility vehicle that plunged into the pond had pleaded guilty to one count of immigrant smuggling resulting in death.
Three of 12 people in the SUV drowned Feb. 6 when it plunged into a stock pond after a police chase southeast of San Antonio.
