BHS softball wins Columbus Invite
COLUMBUS -- The Beatrice softball team went through the Columbus Invite unscathed over the weekend on their way to a championship.
The Lady O picked up wins over Norfolk, Elkhorn and Columbus during the tournament.
They beat Norfolk 1-0 in their opener. Bailey Green pitched 6.2 innings, giving up no earned runs on two hits while striking out five and walking five. Addie Barnard struck out the last batter to complete the shut out.
Beatrice had three hits in the game, including a double from Olivia Aden and a single each from Barnard and Carley Leners. Aden scored the lone run in the first inning when she doubled, moved to third on walks and scored on a wild pitch.
Beatrice defeated Elkhorn 2-0 in the second game of the tournament. Barnard pitched all six innings, giving up no earned runs on two hits while striking out six and walking three.
Beatrice had five hits in the game, including a two-run home run by Barnard. Hannah Lytle singled twice while Whtiney Schwisow and Ashton Sandman had a single each.
In the finale, Beatrice beat host team Columbus 8-5 to secure the championship.
Sandman, Lytle and Leners all homered in the game for the Lady O. Barnard had a double and Bailey Green had two singles. Picking up singles were Schwisow, Sandman, Tavia Hausman, Jaci Berke and Leners.
Barnard pitched four scoreless innings and struck out five. Bailey Green finished out the game in the circle.
