Qualifier Jose Acasuso of Argentina also advanced, upsetting second-seeded countryman Franco Squillari 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4. In the final quarterfinal, fourth-seeded Gaston Gaudio of Argentina faced countryman Guillermo Coria.
