Former Japanese Ambassador to U.S. Dies
TOKYO (AP) _ Fumihiko Togo, former ambassador to the United States, died of cancer in Tokyo on Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry said. He was 69.
Togo was an adviser to the foreign minister after serving as Japanese envoy to Washington from 1975 to 1980. He was director general of the ministry’s North American Affairs Bureau in 1967, ambassador to Vietnam in 1970 and deputy foreign minister in 1972.
He was vice foreign minister before being assigned as Japanese envoy to Washington.
