Driver attacks driver on Interstate 71; man on heroin drives onto sidewalk, backs into car: Brook Park police blotter
Assault, Interstate 71: A Cleveland man, 32, called police at about 5:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and said that another driver attacked him after he stopped his car on the shoulder of 71 southbound.
The victim said he had been driving on the freeway when the other driver, or a passenger in the other driver’s vehicle, threw an object at his car, causing damage. The victim didn’t know what was thrown. He pulled over, stopped his car and saw a dent and small scratches on his vehicle.
The victim signaled for the other driver to pull over. The other driver stopped his car, jumped out and punched the victim several times in the face. Then the other driver left.
The victim was not badly hurt. He gave police a description and license-plate number of the other car.
Operating a vehicle under the influence, Snow Road: A Cleveland man, 50, was arrested at about 5:45 p.m. Aug. 7 after he caused an automobile crash near Reddi’s Pizza & Spaghetti on Snow.
The man had injected heroin and passed out behind the steering wheel. He drove his Ford Focus into a bench on the sidewalk. Then the man then backed his car into a Nissan Altima.
No one was hurt due to the crash, but the man was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights because of the heroin overdose.
Assault, Brookpark Road: A Cleveland man, 53, called police at about 1:35 a.m. Aug. 11 and said he had been assaulted by a bartender in Amber’s Cabaret, 13311 Brookpark.
The man said he had been arguing with the bartender over a bar tab. He said the bartender threw a glass that hit his hand. The bartender said the glass fell on the man’s hand. The man didn’t want to press charges, saying he only wanted the incident documented.
Drunkenness, Snow Road: A Cleveland man, 38, was arrested at about 2 a.m. Aug. 11 after police found him drunk and unable to care for himself in the parking lot of Rite Aid, 15149 Snow.
Witnesses had called police about the man. When police arrived, the man was sitting in the middle of the parking lot, asking to go home. He had urinated on himself.
Animal bites, Lockhaven Drive: A Lockhaven woman called police at about 10:40 a.m. Aug. 9 after a neighbor’s dog broke loose and bit her arm.
The dog had pushed its owner out of the way to escape through the front door of its home. The dog bit the woman’s bicep. She was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights. The case was referred to the city’s animal control officer.
Animal bites, Sylvia Drive: A Brook Park woman was bitten in the leg by a pit bull at about 11:40 a.m. Aug. 11 while she was walking her dog on Sylvia.
It happened as the dog’s owner was walking the animal past the victim and her dog. The woman’s knee was bloody but she was not taken to the hospital. The case was referred to the city’s animal control officer.
Theft, Hummel Road: A lawnmower was reported stolen at about 3:50 p.m. Aug. 9 from a detached garage that had been left unlocked and open.
Forgery, Snow Road: A Cleveland woman, 24, was arrested at about 3 p.m. Aug. 9 after she tried to pass a fake check for $3,125 at CheckSmart, 13375 Snow.
CheckSmart workers realized the check was fake and called police. They kept the woman in the store until police arrived by telling her they were processing paper work for the check.
Operating a vehicle under the influence, Snow Road: A Cleveland man, 25, was arrested at about 3 a.m. Aug. 12 after police caught him driving drunk. Police stopped his car because he was speeding.
