June 9, 1999

DENVER (AP) _ Clay Shiver, who started 25 games at center for Dallas the last two years, signed a contract with the Denver Broncos on Tuesday.

The club released no details of the contract.

Shiver, a 6-foot-3, 294-pounder, started every game of the 1997 season and the first nine of 1998 for the Cowboys before being sidelined with a turf toe injury.

Shiver was a four-year starter at Florida State, during which the Seminoles were 43-5 and won the 1993 national championship. He was a three-time selection to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference team and was a finalist for the Lombardi Award as the nation’s best lineman in 1995.
