STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Lowell Spinners finished off a sweep of the Staten Island Yankees on Friday night with a 2-0 victory before 3,411 fans at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Thaddeus Ward set the tone on the mound, tossing four scoreless innings. He struck out six, walked one and allowed one hit.
He lowered his earned run average to 1.82.
Hunter Haworth (3-3) pitched the next four innings and he was also superb, striking out three and allowing just one hit.
Andrew Politi earned his fifth save with a hitless ninth inning.
Lowell (29-24) got on the board in the fourth inning when Lane Milligan doubled in Tyler Dearden.
The lead grew to 2-0 in the seventh when Ramfis Berroa singled in Milligan.
Lowell outhit Staten Island 11-2.
Milligan, a catcher, led Lowell’s offense by going 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Also notching two hits were Grant Williams and Korby Batesole. Lowell will host Brooklyn on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
