Man pistol-whipped, robbed in downtown Cleveland parking lot

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 43-year-old man was pistol-whipped and robbed after someone broke into his car in a downtown Cleveland parking lot, police said.

The incident happened about 3:45 a.m. Sunday on St. Clair Avenue and between East 13th and East 17th streets.

The man told police that he walked to his car and noticed that someone shattered the front passenger window.

He looked through the car to see if anything was stolen when a man walked up to him from behind and pointed a gun in his face, according to police reports.

The man put his hands in the air as the robber rummaged through his pockets. The robber took about $300 and the man’s cellphone, police reports say.

The robber struck him in the head with his pistol. The blow caused a severe cut, police said. The robber demanded the man drop his keys and run. The man did so and watched as the robber jumped in the passenger seat of a silver Chevy Malibu parked in the same lot, police reports say.

The man was treated at the scene and released. No arrests have been made in the case.
