Women arrested on charges of stealing from water utility
TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — Two northeast Mississippi women are accused of embezzling money from a water utility where they worked.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson tells WTVA-TV that Tina Wilson and Gina Niblett may have been stealing money from the North Lee Water Association since as early as 2012.
Johnson says others involved with the rural water utility noticed problems and contacted the sheriff’s department.
The sheriff says investigators are still determining how much money the women may have taken. Johnson says he’s waiting on an audit to find out more.
Both women were arrested but are now free on bail. It’s unclear if either has a lawyer.
Johnson says he expects prosecutors will present the case to a Lee County grand jury for possible indictment.
