Akron man charged in shooting death of his grandson

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man was charged with murder in the fatal shooting of his grandson, police said. 

Dann E. Schaffer, 61, was charged with murder after he shot his 22-year-old grandson about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 500 block of Rothrock Avenue, Akron police said. 

Public records list Schaffer has a resident of Rothrock Avenue.

Investigators said Schaffer shot his grandson in the chest after an argument between the two. Police did not say what the fight was about or respond to messages seeking additional information.

The grandson was pronounced dead at the scene. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy and identify the man once relatives are notified, police said.

Schaffer was arrested at the home and was being held in the Summit County Jail. Court or jail records do not list an attorney, bond or court appearance for Schaffer.
