Man stabbed in smoking dispute

October 8, 2018

BRIDGEPORT - Smoking broke up a local family in dramatic fashion, police said.

A local man was behind bars after police said he stabbed his son in law in the face with a box cutter because the younger man wanted him to stop smoking.

Gregory Walker, 53, of Soundview Avenue, was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond after being charged with first-degree assault and breach of peace.

His 32-year-old son in law was in Bridgeport Hospital with a 4-inch deep cut running from temple to jaw, police said.

Police said the younger man had come to Walker’s home to pick up his young daughter when he noticed that Walker was smoking a cigarette near the girl.

The victim criticized Walker for smoking near children and demanded he not do so again.

Police said the two men then got into a dispute that ended when Walker pulled out the box cutter and plunged it into the victim’s face.
