French Marathoner Has Surgery
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) _ Abdellah Behar, who had his appendix removed Monday, still hopes to run in the marathon on the final day of the Sydney Olympics.
Behar, a native of Morocco who runs for France, had the surgery a few hours after being admitted to a hospital with stomach pains. He was expected to remain in the hospital about 24 hours.
French team doctor Didier Polin said Behar, 27, still could run in the Oct. 1 men’s marathon.
``He is desperately wanting to run after having his appendix out,″ added French track and field coach Richard Descoux.
Pat Cash played at Wimbledon in 1986 and reached the quarterfinals just three weeks after having his appendix removed.
