BHS tennis falls to Lincoln Christian
LINCOLN -- The Beatrice boys tennis team opened their season on Thursday with a dual at Lincoln Christian.
Beatrice fell in the dual 9-0. The No. 1 doubles team of Zack Zimmerman and Cole Crandall.
“They jumped out an early lead, but Lincoln Christian settled in and took the match,” said Beatrice Coach Karen Dittbrenner.
The No. 2 doubles team of Colt Dittbrenner and Max Meyer had a similar fate. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but couldn’t hold it.
“They started thinking too much and let Christian back in the match,” Dittbrenner said. “One early game took about 20 points to be decided as both teams refused to give in. Pretty much every game was contested by both teams, but in the end Lincoln Christian won 8-6.”
Dittbrenner said singles matches were tough across the board, but she was pleased with the play of Max Meyer at No. 5 singles, who lost 8-5 and Zack Zimmerman, who lost 8-6 at No. 6 singles.
“Max battled hard for his first varsity match of his career,” Dittbrenner said. “I thought Zack also battled hard in his first varsity match of his career.”
Beatrice will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to the Elkhorn Invite, which will have five of the top Class B teams in the state.
