Winter Storm Postpones Luge Trials

October 25, 1997

PARK CITY, UTAH (AP) _ An overnight snowstorm forced a 24-hour postponement of Saturday’s scheduled race-off being held by the United States menFs luge team.

The race-offs are being used to determine the last three spots on the five-man World Cup team. Tony Benshoof won the first race-off but the storm set back the second to Sunday.

The inclement weather and the resulting snow accumulation in the track at the Utah Winter Sports Park forced the team to cancel both training sessions Friday.

Several ski areas in the storm’s path reported as much as 2 feet of snow.

The final race-off event will be held Oct. 31 in Calgary, after which the U.S. World Cup team will be finalized. The Olympic team for the 1998 Nagano Olympics will be drawn from the World Cup roster.
