Syracuse To Play Notre Dame Again
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) _ Syracuse University will begin a three-game series with Notre Dame beginning in 2003, renewing their rivalry after 40 years.
The Irish will visit the Carrier Dome on Nov. 22, 2003, Syracuse announced Tuesday. Syracuse will play in South Bend in 2005 and 2008.
In the past, Syracuse has been unwilling to scheduled a series in which it played two away games to get one at home. In fact, that issue caused the university to end its traditional football rivalry with Penn State in 1990.
``Just the opportunity to get us a chance to play the caliber of a school like Notre Dame and a chance to bring them to the Carrier Dome ... it was just something that we couldn’t pass up,″ said associate athletic director Rob Edson.
The two schools have met three times previously, with Notre Dame holding a 2-1 edge. The last game was in 1963 at Yankee Stadium with the Orangemen coming from behind to beat the Irish 14-7.
