Raleigh convenience store clerk charged in death of suspected robber
A Raleigh convenience store clerk has been charged in the July shooting death of a man he said tried to rob the store.
A Wake County grand jury on Monday indicted Ramy Ramsis Hanna, 47, on a charge of voluntary manslaughter.
The body of Derrick Malik Wiley, 21, was found on July 14 in the 4200 block of Waterbury Road, off New Hope Church Road just west of Capital Boulevard.
Investigators said Wiley was a suspect in a robbery of a Mini Mart in the 5500 block of Old Wake Forest Road.
Hanna exchanged gunfire with the robber, police said. Wiley was found with a gunshot wound to his leg, they said.
