Fort Marcy pool closes until March
Swimmers in Santa Fe are facing a drought of public pools these days.
The pool at the city-owned Fort Marcy Recreation Center north of downtown will be closed until about March 1 while contractors renovate the women’s locker room.
The closure, which started earlier this month, comes after the city announced it was closing the entire Salvador Perez Recreation Center until December as the aging facility undergoes a major overhaul.
“Unfortunately, we have two pools offline, but we’ve honored all the memberships at” the Genoveva Chavez Community Center, which has four pools, Recreation Complex Manager Liz Roybal said Monday.
“If people want a refund, we’re happy to do that or we’re happy to freeze their membership. We just have another month to go and then we’ll get Fort Marcy back up and then before you know it, it’ll be summer and we’ll have Bicentennial Pool, too,” she said, referring to the city’s only outdoor pool, which typically open the day after Memorial Day.
