Police: Teen girl had knife when shot by officer
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A police report says a 16-year-old girl shot by an officer in South Carolina was armed with a knife and had threatened suicide.
The report says the girl’s mother called 911 on July 11 after her daughter grabbed a knife in their Greenville home when she took away her ukulele and keyboard as punishment over a home-schooling issue.
Police say the mother told investigators the teen threatened herself, but not her mother.
The report obtained by The Greenville News does not give details on what led Greenville County deputies to shoot the teen. The State Law Enforcement Division said last week she was wounded one time and taken to the hospital. Her condition hasn’t been updated.
State agents are investigating the shooting. No charges have been filed against the teen.
