Charges filed after fight, macing
A local woman accused of using pepper spray on four people during a family fight on New Year’s Day is charged with several counts of battery.
Michele L. Kyler, 43, of the 400 block of Suttenfield Avenue, punched a woman and her son and then sprayed the son and his younger siblings with pepper spray, according to court documents.
When police arrived around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, the two younger siblings were coughing and appeared to have something in their eyes. The woman who was punched was in pain and bleeding from the side of her mouth and had bruising under her red, watery eyes, court records said.
The woman’s older son, who had come to the home to give his ex-girlfriend baby bottles for their children, was in an alley recovering after he was pepper-sprayed and stomped on, court documents said.
Once he was sprayed, he fell to the ground and Kyler stomped on his back left side and struck him in the back of the head repeatedly with the pepper spray can, court records said.
Kyler and the ex-girlfriend fled in a Chrysler minivan, court documents said.
Medics arrived and treated the people who had been sprayed.
Kyler was charged with two counts of battery resulting in bodily injury to a person under 14 and two misdemeanor charges of battery resulting in bodily injury. She was released Wednesday on her own recognizance.
She has a court hearing Monday.
