Small skyscraper fire put out in Panama City
PANAMA CITY (AP) — Firefighters have put out a fire on the 45th floor of a skyscraper under construction in Panama’s capital. The small blaze sent a dark tower of smoke above the building, but authorities reported no deaths or injuries.
Panama’s Fire Department described it as the start of a fire and said it began Monday in an area where workers were soldering. The streets around the skyscraper were briefly closed as a precaution.
Firefighters climbed stairs and then took an elevator to reach the floor. Fire department commander Frank Archibold said the building had sprinklers up to the 29th floor.
The skyscraper is located in a business zone on the east coast of Panama City. Panama’s capital has experienced a real estate boom in recent years with the construction of many skyscrapers.
