MIAMI (AP) _ Florida State pitcher Paul Wilson, the top pick in this year’s amateur draft, signed a contract with the New York Mets.

Mets scouting director John Barr announced Wilson’s signing during a news conference before Sunday’s game against the Florida Marlins. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-5 right-hander, 13-5 with a 2.08 ERA this season, will report to Port St. Lucie of the Class A Florida State League in a week.

GLEN ALLEN, Va. (AP) - Sonny Skinner birdied the first hole of a sudden- death playoff with Jim Carter to win the Nike Dominion Open on Sunday.

Skinner, who earned $36,000, shot a 3-under-par 69 and Carter closed with a 70 for 17-under 271 totals on the 7,040-yard Dominion Club course.

RICHMOND, British Columbia (AP) - Craig Jones of Australia shot a 5-under- par 67 in the third round and a 68 in the final round for a four-stroke victory in the Canadian Tour’s BC TEL Pacific Open on Sunday.

Jones, who won the New Zealand Open earlier this year, finished with a 16- under 268 total on the Mayfair Lakes course. The third round was postponed Saturday because of heavy rain.

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A flagman was killed in a stock-car race accident at Wall Stadium, the first death involving a driver or track official in the Monmouth County stadium’s 44-year history.

Dave Innes, 60, of Berkeley Township was hit Saturday night by a small- block modified car when it rode up on a guardrail on a straightaway near the flagman’s perch, a track spokesman told the Asbury Park Press of Neptune.

No other drivers or officials were injured in the accident during a qualifying heat. The remainder of the card was canceled.

GIBSON CITY, Ill. (AP) - Lia Biehl shot a 1-under-par 71 for a two-stroke victory over Michelle Wooding in the Futures Tour’s Railside Charity Classic.

Biehl, who earned $4,000, finished play Sunday with a 1-under 215 total on the Railside Golf Club course. Wooding closed with a 74.

THOMPSON, Conn. (AP) - Rick Fuller of Auburn, Mass., held off Reggie Ruggiero of Rocky Hill, Conn. to win the Big D Supermarkets-Polar 125 at the Thompson International Speedway on Sunday.

Fuller, the defending NASCAR Featherlite Modified Champion, became the first repeat winner on the series this season. He also earned the outside front starting position in the Sunoco 300 at the track in September.

NISHINOMIYA, Japan (AP) - Japan’s Tsukasa Watanabe shot an even-par 71 for a two-stroke victory over Australia’s Anthony Gilligan in the Yomiuri Open.

Watanabe, who earned $174,000, finished play Sunday with a 14-under 270 total. Gilligan bogeyed the last two holes for a 72.

FUJIOKA, Japan (AP) - Toshimi Kimura of Japan shot a 5-over-par 77 for a six-stroke victory in the Dunlop Twin Lakes Ladies tournament Sunday.

Kimura, who earned $87,000, finished with a 4-under 284 total.
