Rangers’ Velarde on Disabled List
BALTIMORE (AP) _ The Texas Rangers put infielder Randy Velarde on the 15-day disabled list Friday and recalled infielder Michael Young from Triple-A Oklahoma.
Velarde pulled his left hamstring running to first base in the first inning of Thursday’s game against Tampa Bay. He returned to Texas on Friday morning for an MRI exam and treatment.
Velarde ranked ninth in the AL with a .333 batting average, and had five homers and 14 RBIs in 44 games.
The 24-year-old Young hit .291 with eight homers and 28 RBIs in 47 games with Oklahoma. He made his major league debut last September with the Rangers, going 0-for-2 in two games.
The Rangers also promoted infielder Jason Romano from Double-A Tulsa to Oklahoma and assigned infielder Brian Oliver to Tulsa.
