JUNEAU — There are new buildings standing and old ones being painted as the Dodge County Fairgrounds gets spruced up for its biggest event of the year – the Dodge County Fair.

Dodge County Fair Board Secretary Sharon Keil said there will be several additions and upgrades that can be seen on the fairgrounds this year, including the new commercial building and junior livestock office as well as remodeling at the Rotary Food Stand and PS Seasonings Co-op building.

“We’re having ribbon cuttings on Wednesday morning,” the first day of the fair, Keil said.

The commercial building replaces the two large tents that had been used for the business display. Keil said there are still two tents that were needed but the new building adds a lot to the fair.

“It has a concrete floor and a really nice facility,” Keil said.

It is the first time that the Rotary has added on to the Rotary building, Keil said.

“PS Seasoning remodeled the outside of the co-op building,” Keil said. “It helps to give all the buildings a similar look. There wasn’t a dollar for the improvements that came from tax dollars. It can’t rain. We still have to pay for the improvements.”

The 2017 fair season was marred by rain that caused low numbers of spectators on a couple of nights. Kiel said two shows — the Badger State Tractor Pullers and the Oak Ridge Boys — are returning this year since the rain prevented many from seeing the shows in 2017.

However the big event may be Chris Janson performing Friday night.

“I believe that will be our biggest night,” Kiel said.

Janson has a hit song rising on the country charts titled “Drunk Girl.” His hits include “Buy Me A Boat” and “Fix Me a Drink.”

Saturday night has two 1970s favorites — Foghat and Grand Funk Railroad — on the Grandstand Stage.

“They should bring in a crowd,” Kiel said.

Sunday’s Demolition Derbys always do well and end the festivities.

“We always get two grandstands full,” Kiel said.

Some of everyone’s favorites will be coming back, Kiel said, including the food, Kandu Magic Show, Custom Chain Saw Carver, Wild World of Animals and Pig Racing.

Dodge County Fair season tickets are $27 before Wednesday and $35 at the gate for the five-day fair. Daily gate admission is $7 before noon; or $10 after noon. Children age 9 and under receive free admission.
