Duce Staley Out Again for Steelers

November 14, 2004

CLEVELAND (AP) _ Pittsburgh Steelers running back Duce Staley was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns because of a sore hamstring.

Staley, the club’s leading rusher, had gained more than 100 yards in four of his last five games. He also missed last week’s win over Philadelphia, his former team.

Jerome Bettis, who has been used primarily in short-yardage situations this season, started for Staley. Last week, Bettis rushed for 149 yards as the Steelers upset the Eagles.

Running back Verron Haynes, who spelled Bettis on third downs last week, was also out with a turf toe. With the Steelers thin at running back, the club signed Dante Brown from the practice squad on Saturday.
