Westport man sentenced to 27 months for child porn
STAMFORD — A Westport man who pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography has been sentenced to 27 months in jail.
Daniel Krulewitch, 53, of Compo Road South, was sentenced Thursday by Judge Gary White who gave him a suspended sentence of 7 years, 9 months that he could have to serve if he violates the law during his 14 years of probation.
Mark Sherman, Krulewitch’s criminal defense attorney, said his client was grateful the child endangerment charges were dropped. The offense carries a two-year minimum sentence, according to state law.
Stamford State’s Attorney Richard Colangelo, who prosecuted the case, said there was no evidence that Krulewitch was in contact with the children depicted in the porn he downloaded from the Internet.
Krulewitch was arrested in May 2017 more than a year after Westport police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that child pornography was being uploaded in a town residence.
The tip led police to Krulewitch and the search of his electronic devices where they found between 20 and 50 images of child pornography, Colangelo said during a previous hearing.
Krulewitch will be placed on the state’s Sex Offender Registry for 10 years and will be subject to polygraph checks and cannot have unsupervised contact with minors during his probation.
