Stamford man charged with kicking parked car

May 7, 2019

STAMFORD — A city man was charged with criminal mischief after video was found of him kicking and denting a car that parked in front of his home, police said.

Sgt. Kenneth Jarrett said a complaint was made by a Depinedo Avenue resident about his car being dented after it was parked in front of a home where Douglas Westervelt lived. Jarrett said it was an ongoing problem in the neighborhood.

The neighbor parked in front of the home March 30. He returned the next day to find a large dent in the side of his car. It turned out that another neighbor had a video camera set up that caught the dent being made.

Jarrett said the video tape shows Westervelt come out of his home and kick the 2008 Chevrolet Impala so hard the vehicle is seen rocking on film. Westervelt denied doing anything and a warrant was granted for his arrest on a charge of second-degree criminal mischief.
