Villanova 74, Miami 50

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Greg Woodard scored 25 points and Ron Wilson added 12 as Villanova defeated Miami 74-50 in a Big East game Tuesday night.

It was the first meeting ever between the two schools.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Wildcats (9-15, 6-7), while Miami (6-18, 1-2) lost its ninth straight and its 14th of its last 15.

Miami’s Jerome Scott hit a 3-pointer for the game’s first points, but the Hurricanes never again led.

Villanova scored 10 straight points before Scott hit another 3-pointer, and the Wildcats then tallied six more in a row to take a 16-6 lead. Villianova went on to a 31-18 halftime advantage.

Villanova made 9 of 23 shots in the first half, a 39.1 percentage. The Hurricanes converted only 7 of 26, a 26.9 percentage, and had 8 turnovers.

Two free throws by Lance Miller boosted Villanova’s lead to 44-26 with 14:25 to play. After Miami scored three points, the Wildcats ran off seven straight to build a 51-29 advantage on a layup by Woodard with 11:23 to go.

Arron Bain scored 9 points and had 9 rebounds for Villanova, while Jerome Scott had 13 and Jack Morton 10 for Miami.
