Betrayal is a terrible thing
Dirk Murchison and Georganna Robinett’s letter (“Not a democracy,” Oct. 11), said so much in a short letter that’s been eating at my patriotic heart for years.
Democracy no longer exists in the USA and hasn’t for decades. The reasons: money, greed and a political system that has been bought and paid for by those powerful few.
I remember a report in the early 1960s when I returned from my first overseas tour about the late Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev stating that America would crumble without the USSR ever having to fire a single shot, because it (the USA) will self-destruct.
Part of the oath I took years ago is “I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
Betrayal is a terrible thing. But when it’s systematically done to the loyal multitude, solely for the enrichment of 1 percent or 2 percent, it is no less than evil.
